About the Technical Assistance Grant
The Business Energy Upgrades Scheme (BEUS) Technical Assistance Grant supports Irish businesses, agricultural sector, public sector, community groups and charities in scoping their building's decarbonisation journey before committing to works. It covers up to 50% of the cost of a consultant engineer's design report, up to €25,000, giving you high-level drawings, system sizing, sequencing and cost guidance across three technology areas:
Renewable Heat
Energy Efficiency
Building Management System (BMS) Controls
The design package is delivered by a chartered engineer and gives you a holistic view of your building's decarbonisation options before you commit to an upgrade - reducing the risk of scoping works incorrectly or missing a better route to savings.

Before You Start

Have these items to hand before you open the SEAI portal - it'll take five minutes to apply once you do.
You'll need your:
1️⃣ Site address and building details - approximate floor area and current systems (heating, BMS platform if known)
2️⃣ Which category you plan to select - Renewable Heat, Energy Efficiency, or BMS Controls
3️⃣ Your consultant engineer's details - for the SEAI Pre-Application Form
4️⃣ CRO number and business registration details.

How to Apply - Step by Step
1. Contact Bryan First
Before applying, get in touch with Bryan (hello@energyapproach.ie) to confirm your building and planned upgrade fit the BMS Controls category, and to agree scope and cost. This takes 10 minutes and avoids surprises later.
Tip: SEAI's own guidance recommends confirming your consultant engineer before applying - the Pre-Application Form mirrors the questions in the portal, so it's worth reviewing together first.
2. Go to the SEAI Application Portal
Head to the SEAI Application Portal login or click the Register button to create a new account. Select "Business" as your user type. For “User Type” select “Non-domestic”. SMEs not registered for VAT should enter 1234567A.
3. Complete Your Registration
Enter your email address, create a password, and fill in your business contact details. Click Submit, then check your inbox for a confirmation email from SEAI. Click the link inside to verify your account.
4. Create a New Application
Select Business Energy Upgrades. Choose "Business Energy Upgrades" from the drop-down list and follow the application steps. No documentary upload or review process is required at this stage.
5. Provide Your Consultant's Details
Enter Bryan's/Energy Approach contact details as your chosen consultant engineer under the BMS Controls category.
6. Submit Your Application
Once submitted, you'll receive an automated Letter of Offer within minutes and you're free to start the design work immediately.
7. Bryan Delivers the Design Report
Bryan produces the design package: high-level drawings, system sizing, sequencing and cost guidance for your BMS controls upgrade, in line with SEAI's Design Assistance Template.
