Eligible Irish small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can claim a €2,000 Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) voucher that covers the full cost of a professional energy audit; the first step on your cost and energy-saving journey.
The Energy Audit will help you to understand your energy use and will make recommendations on the most effective ways to save money on your energy bills.
Following your SEAI Energy Audit, your report can unlock the LEO Energy Efficiency Grant — available through all 31 Local Enterprise Offices nationwide. This covers 75% of eligible upgrade costs, up to €10,000, helping you implement the audit's recommendations and maximise your energy savings.
Work with an authorised, SEAI Energy Auditor
Bryan O'Regan at Energy Approach is a SEAI-registered energy auditor and experienced Energy Manager participating in the scheme and currently serving businesses across Kilkenny, Dublin and the South East of Ireland. Bryan is participating in the SEAI Support Scheme for Energy Audits (SSEA).
Please note: the SSEA fund is not unlimited — vouchers are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Apply now to avoid missing out.
Your business most likely qualifies if all of the following apply:
✅Your business is registered and tax compliant in the Republic of Ireland
✅You are an SME (fewer than 250 employees, turnover under €50m) or a qualifying public sector body
✅Your site spends at least €10,000 per year on energy (electricity + heating — transport excluded)
✅You have not previously received a Support Scheme for Energy Audits voucher for this business before
Have these items to hand before you open the SEAI portal — it'll take five minutes to apply once you do.
You'll need your:
1️⃣ MPRN number — the 11-digit Meter Point Reference Number from the top of your electricity bill.
2️⃣ CRO number — You can look this up at cro.ie if needed.
3️⃣ Tax Clearance Access Number — from Revenue. This confirms your business is tax compliant.
4️⃣ Approximate annual energy spend — a rough figure for electricity and heating combined is fine.
The SEAI application portal issues your voucher automatically once submitted. Follow these steps:
1. Contact Bryan First
Before applying, get in touch with Bryan (hello@energyapproach.ie) to confirm costs and that the voucher will cover your audit in full. He'll also confirm you're eligible and answer any questions. This takes 10 minutes and means no surprises later.
Tip: SEAI recommends contacting your chosen auditor before applying — this is the step most people skip, and it's the most important one.
2. Go to the SEAI Application Portal
Head to the SEAI Application Portal login or click the Register button to create a new account. Select "Business" as your user type. For “User Type” select “Non-domestic”. SMEs not registered for VAT should enter 1234567A.
3. Complete Your Registration
Enter your email address, create a password, and fill in your business contact details. Click Submit, then check your inbox for a confirmation email from SEAI. Click the link inside to verify your account.
4. Create a New Application
Once logged in, click "Create New Application". You'll be asked to enter your MPRN (found on your electricity bill) — this pulls your site address in automatically. Check and confirm the details are correct. The option to create an application will only appear 10 minutes after you click ‘save’ on section B of your applicant profile.
5. Enter Your Business Details
Provide your CRO number, Tax Clearance Access Number, and your approximate annual energy spend. This is what SEAI uses to confirm eligibility. SMEs not registered for VAT should enter 1234567A.
6. Select Bryan O'Regan as Your Auditor
Use the search tool to find your auditor. Search for "Bryan O'Regan" or "Energy Approach" and select the entry.
Note: Only SEAI-registered auditors who are participating in the SSEA can claim payment. Bryan is registered and participating.
7. Submit Your Application
Review your details, agree to SEAI's terms and conditions, and click Submit. Your €2,000 voucher — containing your Application Number — will be issued to you automatically by email, usually within a few hours.
8. Send Bryan Your Voucher & Schedule the Audit
Forward your voucher email to Bryan at hello@energyapproach.ie. He'll confirm the audit date, carry out the on-site assessment, and issue your report. Bryan then claims payment directly from SEAI — you don't need to do anything else.
